BFI Joins with 85 Organizations to Demand Private Prison Ban Extend to ICE Detention
On February 9, Bridges Faith Initiative joined with 85 other humanitarian and faith-based organizations to demand the private prison ban extend to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Detention. In 2021, President Biden signed an executive order that would phase out the use of private prisons by the Department of Justice. Today, negotiations between ICE and private prison companies continue across the United States.
President Biden must extend the executive order to include ICE Detention in order to reduce the reliance in immigration detention and put an end to the inhumane conditions faced by immigrants in detention. At Bridges Faith Initiative, we acknowledge our shared humanity with immigrants in detention and seek to end the degrading practice of detention once and for all. Until then, we stand in active and prayerful solidarity with those in detention. You can read more about our work to end Immigrant Detention here.
